Our founder Dr. Irvin Gleim, who was an accounting professor in the 1970s, wanted to improve the quality of study materials his students used in class. But he realized the problem was bigger than just that.

Back then, the only review courses available were ones you had to be physically present for. You had to travel and get a hotel, which meant you had to spend time, money, and extra effort to prepare for the exams. Due to these constraints, self study wasn’t the norm.

That’s what sparked Dr. Gleim to use his innovative approach to change the status quo.

Our work stems from a teacher’s heartfelt mission.

Mission-Led from the Beginning

Dr. Gleim wanted to enable easy access to better study materials for his students. So, he got to work. With the unwavering support of Mrs. Gleim and their children Lorie, Larry, and Garrett, Gleim Exam Prep took off with humble beginnings. This strong foundation inspired our strong, mission-led approach over the years.

A Pioneer of Universal Self-Study

Dr. Gleim published the first ever self-study CPA review book in 1974. The review book gained immense popularity and recognition, creating a ripple effect that helped not only the students in his classroom, but accounting students everywhere.

There were no self-study options back then, and most students couldn’t afford a live review course. I wanted to create a course that everyone could benefit from no matter their background.
