Blog Post

Task Type: Elective | Points Value: 15 points (+5 bonus possible)

Instructions

Write a 1,000 – 2,000 word blog article appropriate for the Gleim website.

There is no limit to the number of blogs you can write, and each is worth 15 points. If we like your piece, we’ll post it, credit you as the author, and you’ll earn +5 bonus points!

Before beginning, please indicate the topic(s) you’re interested in writing about to your Campus Rep Coordinator. Sometimes we have multiple Reps who want to write about the same thing and, for some topics, we may be able to provide additional guidance.

A list of pre-approved topics can be found below, but if you’re interested in writing about a topic we didn’t include, your Coordinator would be happy to discuss. Many of the topics on our list were inspired by suggestions from Reps.

The links below will take you to the blogs for a given certification. Check out the ones that are most relevant to you to find some example articles.

Detailed guidance that will help your blog get featured

It’s important your article fits in with the rest of our content and meets our audience’s expectations.

To make sure the blog you’re writing is a success, before you get started, please spend some time getting familiar with our blog’s content. Read a few articles, thinking about how they sound, who they’re for, and what value they’re trying to provide. Once you think you’ve got a feel for it, you’re good to go.

Content development guidelines:

  • Craft a compelling headline: Use keywords and make it clear and concise.
  • Include a strong byline: Briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your background and any relevant experience.
  • Write in a conversational style: Use clear language and avoid jargon (unless it’s specifically for a niche that will appreciate it).
  • Ideally you want to write in a way that resonates with our blog’s audience.
  • Target roughly 1,500 words, but more or less is fine. Take the time you need to fairly address the topic.
  • Incorporate keywords that are relevant to the topic and audience.
  • Include internal links: Please link to other relevant content on our website, if you’re aware of any.
  • Be respectful: We’re unlikely to host content that casts others in a negative light.

Great pieces of content tend to do a few of these things:

  • Provide actionable advice: Offer practical tips, examples, and solutions that readers can apply.
  • Address pain points: Provide valuable information and solutions that address audience needs and challenges.
  • Use data and examples: Support your claims with relevant statistics and real-world examples.
  • Please provide primary sources that we can link to. If a claim or stat can’t be verified, we might not be able to use it.
  • Include visuals: Use images and videos to make your post more engaging and visually appealing.
  • If you include copyrighted material that is not your own, we will not be able to use it without the express permission of the copyright holder.
  • Tell relatable stories: Think about the readers who might be following in your footsteps. They could benefit from hearing about it from someone who’s already been there.

Before sending us your draft, please:

  • Fix your formatting: Add headers as you move through ideas within the piece to break up the content and tell the reader where you’re going.
  • Proofread carefully to ensure your post is free of errors and typos.
  • If you use AI to help you with this, make sure it doesn’t introduce any “extra changes.”

A note on AI use for blog contributors:

While we don’t mind if you want to use AI as a tool to help you develop your article, it’s important that you’re the one to actually write it. For both our company and our audience, the value of guest blog content like yours comes entirely from your unique voice and perspective. AI tends to handle both things poorly (if it doesn’t remove them entirely), and it’s pretty easy to tell when someone has had a generative AI model do most of their work for them. If it’s clear that this is what’s happened, we’ll likely ask for the piece to be developed further before distributing points, and further blog articles from that author will not be accepted.
